S&P 500 ended at $4,091.95 (-0.41%)

Nasdaq Composite ended at $11,929.34 (-0.85%)

Despite starting strong, the stock market declined as investors grew increasingly anxious about the possibility of a recession. Consequently, the Dow Jones Industrial, S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite all fell. This happened despite the release of new data showing lower-than-expected inflation.
