MARKET RECAP – OCTOBER 14, 2024

STOCK MARKET

Dow Jones ended at $43,065.22 (+0.47%)

S&P 500 ended at $5,859.85 (+0.77%)

Nasdaq Composite ended at $18,502.69 (+0.33%)

The stock market began the week on a positive note with all major indexes increasing as the S&P 500 rose to a fresh record and the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached an all-time high above 43,000 points. This was driven by anticipation of strong corporate earnings, with key companies such as Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and Johnson & Johnson set to report their latest results. The early signs of a recovery in banking profits have also boosted market confidence. In addition, the Nasdaq Composite also joined the upward trend. However, it is worth noting that investors remain cautious due to uncertainties surrounding the presidential election, rising Treasury yields, Federal Reserve policy easing, and geopolitical risks. Nevertheless, despite potential volatility in the near term, analysts remain bullish on the market’s long-term prospects, citing lower interest rates, economic growth, and earnings growth as positive factors. Overall, the S&P 500 has gained almost 23% this year and the market continues to show resilience despite external challenges.

CRYPTO MARKET

Bitcoin rose by 5.22% for the day, with a value of $65,897.36 as of 3:00 PM CST, as stated by Coin Metrics.
