MARKET RECAP – MAY 23, 2024

STOCK MARKET

Dow Jones ended at $39,065.26 (-1.53%)

S&P 500 ended at $5,267.84 (-0.74%)

Nasdaq Composite ended at $16,736.03 (-0.39%)

The stock market experienced losses across all major indexes for a second consecutive session, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average registering its worst day of 2024. The Dow slid significantly, while Boeing was the biggest laggard in the index, dropping sharply. Moreover, despite chipmaker Nvidia’s strong performance post-earnings, the broader market failed to show significant gains, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite also tumbling. Nvidia’s results were closely watched by Wall Street, signaling a continued interest in AI momentum. However, the overall market breadth remained negative, with the majority of stocks in the S&P 500 declining. Stronger economic data led to a decrease in expectations for a rate cut by the Federal Reserve in September, adding to market volatility and raising concerns about the sustainability of the current market trends.

CRYPTO MARKET

Bitcoin fell by 4.22% for the day, with a value of $66,714.67 as of 3:00 PM CST, as stated by Coin Metrics.
