MARKET RECAP – FEBRUARY 12, 2024

STOCK MARKET

Dow Jones ended at $38,797.38 (+0.33%)

S&P 500 ended at $5,021.84 (-0.09%)

Composite ended at $15,942.55 (-0.30%)

The stock market began the week with mixed performances as the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite decreased, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average managed to report some gains. The mixed sentiment across all major indexes was mainly due to investor anticipation of fresh inflation and earnings data. Moreover, although the Dow ended on the positive side, it only reported slight gains due to the decline of cloud-based software stock Salesforce, the slight slip in shares of Hershey following a downgrade by Morgan Stanley, and the anticipation of earnings reports from several major companies. Additionally, with key economic data such as the consumer price index and other indicators set to be released throughout the week, investors are likely being cautious and weighing their positions based on the forthcoming data. There is also a degree of caution due to the unusually strong and consistent rally in the market over the last three months, with investors considering the possibility of a pullback in the near future.

CRYPTO MARKET

Bitcoin rose by 4.17% for the day, with a value of $50,180.08 as of 3:00 PM CST, as stated by Coin Metrics.
