MARKET RECAP – AUGUST 29, 2024

STOCK MARKET

Dow Jones ended at $41,335.05 (+0.59%)

S&P 500 ended at $5,591.96 (-0.00%)

Nasdaq Composite ended at $17,516.43 (-0.23%)

The stock market witnessed mixed performances on Thursday as the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached a fresh record close, while the S&P 500 ended just below the flatline and the Nasdaq Composite slid. Wall Street’s strong gains were supported by positive economic data, including revision of the GDP growth for the second quarter, which was higher than initially thought. In addition, although there was a slight increase in jobless claims, the figure was lower than the previous week. Nevertheless, despite the positive data, the decline in Nvidia shares after their latest earnings report weighed on the Nasdaq, despite the company exceeding expectations. Moreover, it is worth noting that the mixed performances may also reflect profit-taking and sector-specific factors, with some areas of the market outperforming others.

CRYPTO MARKET

Bitcoin rose by 0.06% for the day, with a value of $59,278.72 as of 3:00 PM CST, as stated by Coin Metrics.
