MARKET RECAP – OCTOBER 16, 2024

STOCK MARKET

Dow Jones ended at $43,077.70 (+0.79%)

S&P 500 ended at $5,842.47 (+0.47%)

Nasdaq Composite ended at $18,367.08 (+0.28%)

The stock market is back on a positive note, with all major indexes recovering from yesterday’s sell-off due to strong earnings reports from companies like Morgan Stanley and United Airlines, which exceeded Wall Street expectations. Consequently, the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached a record high once again, while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite also increased. Additionally, it is worth remarking that the majority of S&P 500 stocks that have reported third-quarter earnings so far have beaten expectations, and although there has been market volatility lately, there is optimism that equities could rise in the short term, especially considering historical trends of positive market performance in the final months of election years. However, there is still potential for a pullback in equity prices due to stretched valuations, but this is more likely to occur after the election and not until the new year.

CRYPTO MARKET

Bitcoin rose by 1.29% for the day, with a value of $67,717.53 as of 3:00 PM CST, as stated by Coin Metrics.
